Best possible treatment

Even as a teenager, I always wanted to help other people, regardless of their situation in life. I was fascinated by the happiness of making others happy and it was clear from an early age that I wanted to become a doctor. It was also clear early on that I wanted to shape and create something with my hands thanks to the manual work my father encouraged. When I completed my civilian service in a hospital after leaving school, my desire to become a surgeon was confirmed. I was then drawn to the Hanseatic city of Hamburg to study. This was followed by six intensive years of study, which I completed with a tertial practical year in plastic surgery. I had my first contact with lipoedema sufferers during my practical year. At the time, I didn’t understand how so many women were suffering pain and nobody could or wanted to help them. Let alone the health insurance companies and colleagues, we are talking about 2005, nobody knew what to do with the term lipoedema. The many facets of plastic surgery and the possibilities of improving function and alleviating pain led me to take the path of plastic surgery.

In the years 2006-2012, my interest in reconstructive surgery, lifting operations after weight loss, aesthetic surgery and especially lipoedema grew. We carried out our first studies in our clinic at an early stage, for example on the subject of megaliposuctions, when bariatric surgery was still in its infancy, and expanded our experience with many different methods.

It was incredible how the lives of the vast majority of lipoedema sufferers changed after treatment, the lightness of life, the happiness and the positive energy drove me on and on to refine my treatment and techniques to the point where I am today and the journey doesn’t stop, it will go on and on.

Although there was a small setback when I moved from Hamburg to my later position as head physician in Oldenburg, where we took over a clinic that we had to rebuild from scratch, we were able to overcome this and establish our specialty of lipedema surgery in Oldenburg.

Today, I am in a very fortunate situation with a lot of people coming from all over Germany and many other countries. A few years ago, I would never have thought that patients would travel from faraway countries to be treated here in Oldenburg. In 2022, Dr. Jiga, my chief physician colleague, and I wrote the book “Das Lipödem” (Lipoedema) as a further milestone to raise awareness and inform even more people about the topic.

Today, I have my own treatment strategy and liposuction technique, which I use for both lipoedema patients and aesthetic liposuctions. I have now founded the “LIPOLD” institute to do justice to those affected by lipoedema and those interested in liposuction. Especially in order to provide bundled information about the disease “lipoedema”, its treatment options and liposuction. In doing so, we are fulfilling our responsibility to guarantee those affected the best possible access to information. LIPOLD also stands for standardized procedures that meet our strict quality criteria.

Thanks to our available infrastructure, the entire team and our many years of experience, we can meet you at eye level and call ourselves experts in this field. As I said, the development here does not stop here and we are all excited to see where the journey will take us.
